I love taking photos of almost everything. And you might find me posting a lot of  pictures with a few words. Because sometimes its hard to describe the experience so I try to say it by photos. This is one of those times.

Arriving at Paro International Airport, in Bhutan, I was in awe when we landed and saw the airport facade. Oh my God.

Look at all these architectural details.

And all these paint jobs in the interior.

I cannot say much, but all of the buildings and structures in Bhutan are just so breathtaking. Every single building in Bhutan is built this way and and has the same architectural details. Every single one of them. Breathtaking.

Being the Production Designer of ABS CBN's primetime show Princess and I, I was fortunate to be one of the six people who had to fly to Bhutan. We went to Bhutan to study its culture and architecture.

Here's the first hotel that we checked in to: Hotel Kisa in Thimphu, Bhutan's capital and largest city.

There's heater in the room and hot shower, basic needs are in place. The lobby is very cozy. The service is great, people are friendly, of course -- after all, they are the happiest people on earth! :)

A Glimpse of Bhutanese Architecture

This is one of the most interesting things about Bhutan, secondary to its Happiness Philosophy called "Gross National Happiness".

Traditional architecture remains alive in Bhutan. As recently as 1998, by royal decree, all buildings must be constructed with multi-coloured wood frontages, small arched windows, and sloping roofs.^[1] Traditional western Bhutanese structures are often made from wooden frames earthen material, namely wattle and daub interior walls, rammed earth exterior walls, and stone and earth retaining walls.^[3] No plans are drawn up, nor are nails or iron bars allowed in the construction.^[1]Many traditional structures feature swastikas and phallic paintings.^[4]

It is actually very interesting to see a structure currently under construction in Bhutan in the streets of Thimphu. Look at all those bamboo serving as scaffolding.
